DOHA, Qatar - Jelena Jankovic booked her spot in the semifinals of the Sony Ericsson Championships - Doha 2009 on Friday, defeating Caroline Wozniacki to improve her record in the White Group to 2-1. Highlights: Jankovic vs. Wozniacki
Jankovic, the No.8 seed here, made quick work of a visibly exhausted Wozniacki, needing just 68 minutes to win, 62 62. While Jankovic looked fresh and in tune, hitting 17 winners to 19 errors, the No.4-seeded Wozniacki hit seven winners to a whopping 22 errors, including two wild groundstroke misses on the last two points of the match. "I didn't know what to expect from Caroline today. I watched her play yesterday and saw what happened," Jankovic said on-court after the win. "I just knew I had to win this one in order to get to the semifinals. I wanted to play aggressively and dictate the points, and not get into the long points, which I know she's really good at." Interviews: Wozniacki a Lucky Loser
A day earlier, Wozniacki overcame injury and cramping to outlast Vera Zvonareva in a long three-setter; the day before that, she rallied to beat Victoria Azarenka in another long three-setter. Friday Highlights
"I didn't have anything left. I couldn't play like I wanted to," the Dane said. "I definitely feel like I deserve to make it to the semis, but I did everything I could, and I fought the best I could. If I don't get there, it's just bad luck. It's the way it's supposed to be. I still have many more years in front of me." Features: Meet the White Group (Pre-Tournament)
The other semifinal berth in the White Group came down to the third match on Friday, with Azarenka falling to alternate Agnieszka Radwanska, thus allowing Wozniacki to move on to the final four.
